Since 2007 to date, Turnall has been my second home. As the Turnall family, we have gone through good times and bad times but together we have managed to pull through. That gives me security and peace of mind as I see Turnall growing from strength to strength. Turnall is a systems organization. We have three environmental systems (EMS), Quality Management Systems (QMS) and the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS). These make Turnall products marketable the world over, thus giving me hope for a bright future. As an individual, there is room for technological improvement career wise due to access to the global village via the internet. Apart from that, there are a number of packages which are readily available to me. These include:
• Free funeral cover • Medical aid • On site medical clinic • Food and beverages.
Finally, Turnall has an open door policy which gives me easy access to my superiors, even those in the highest offices – the family culture I appreciate. Being one of the few women in the Engineering department, I find it very easy to work at Turnall due to the conducive environment. What more can one ask for?
I remember when I came for my apprenticeship interview in January 2008 and I asked myself, can I really do this? Just coming out of high school not really sure how I wanted my career path to be like, I had mixed emotions about being an electrician. But when I passed the interview and realised that I was the only female apprentice student who was accepted that’s when I realised this was God’s work. Has it been easy working in a male-dominated environment? No, not really, but one thing I like about the Turnall workforce is their respect for women.
They have made it comfortable for me to work with men and they have taught me to take-up challenges and believe in myself. My foreman is the best foreman ever. He is accommodating and he is very patient with his subordinates making it easy to work with him. Turnall has become like a second family to me and I remember when I lost my father in 2013, the way everyone comforted us, it was amazing. Managers and Heads of Departments sent in their condolences and gave me a sense of belonging. In 2013 I was privileged to be part of the team that installed the concrete tile machine. Oh yes! I was the only lady and it really helped boost my confidence. I learnt a lot from my fellow artisans and the Italian technicians who we worked with. If there is one single thing I like about Turnall, is how much they empower the girl child in order to become great in their careers
I am a delighted and motivated employee of Turnall Holdings Ltd, a great organisation. Established in 1943 Turnall believes that its most important asset is people. I joined the Turnall family 25years ago. I have grown/advanced from very humble beginnings. I started in Engineering as a journey man assistant. I then became a semi-skilled artisan and moved to be a qualified boiler operator. I kept advancing my qualifications and moved to Production as a Production Foreman; then Production Controller (Training & Standards) for both Harare and Bulawayo Building products. Then I was recalled to the main line as Shift Leader. Elevated to Assistant Production Manager before moving back Bulawayo where I was promoted to be the Production Manager – Building products. After one and half years I was promoted to Works Manager – Bulawayo Plant. After seven years in Bulawayo I was recalled in Harare to assist the Technical team resolve technical and process related challenges. I was redeployed back to Harare as Process Improvement Manager looking after both factories. A position I held until the recent restructuring exercise which was necessitated by the business environment that required a lean; effective and efficient structure that can deliver results.
I cherish the culture at Turnall which enables focused and passionate individuals to be able to open doors to opportunities they desire. Turnall is a systems company with high integrity, strong business ethics and values. It focuses on providing results through superior customer service. The company offers a dynamic, professional, and high quality product support. The expertise, experience and understanding of processes and market helps the team exceed customer expectations.
For me it has been a journey, a wonderful journey that I embarked on 20 years ago. Each day going by with it’s challenges and being able to tackle each one of the business challenges within my sphere of influence by providing solutions.
I can’t help but feel good every time I hit the target, being able to captain teams and get things done, being where the action is, where it matters most and above all being able to achieve the desired GOAL. This has become such a motivational factor that has kept me going all these years. We met sensitive business plans for both local and export sales requirements when I was at the pipeplant Finishing end in the 90’s. In year 2000 I was part of the team that developed the system procedures and work instructions that saw the business become a systems entity, trained employees on the system standards and went on to achieve high standards of factory house keeping which I continue to do to date.
I like the way the business has created room for personal growth with programs like the FLMP and MDP that I attended. Leading the Saws, Moulded goods and the Carpenter shop as a Production Foreman has been one of my biggest achievements and contribution to the business from a cost reduction point of view.
I thrive to work in an environment that demands RESULTS,RESULTS,RESULTS because it keeps one going, focused and determined to achieve. The pressure drives me to apply myself with vigor and when plans are met, that sense of achievement alone is enough to wake me up the next morning and prepare for the next day’s WORK.
I can’t help but recall my daughter’s voice when it’s time to wake up and go for work, the good bye daddy please bring me a packet of sweets, biscuits the list is endless. The mere fact that as long as I continue to go for work there is the 1 day that her list will be fulfilled is enough reason why I like working for TURNALL. Even under these most difficult times TURNALL has continued to provide for my family needs and that is why I am working for TURNALL.
